BATH TIME AT THE CATTERY:

This is the way that I do it and have done it since the kitten was four weeks old.

Adam's flea shampoo and dawn dish detergent.. I think the Adams is a little strong for the kittens so I water it down with dawn dish detergent (original).. Scientist use dawn on baby birds that get in the oil spills so I guess it is okay for messy kittens...

I have a divided kitchen sink so I run water in both sinks.. Enough to cover the cat.. Make it baby bottom warm.

I get a small plastic cup to rinse with, a wash rag for messy eyes and face, bath soap already mixed in a small cup or glass..  Put a small towel on the counter next to the sink to drain him off.. Get all your towels, ear cleaners and nail clippers ready.. (Takes the whole kitchen to accomplish, but it is fast)..

I scruff the cat, cup his feet, legs and bottom in my other hand.. Slowly lower him back first, to his little neck in the warm water... talk to him and reassure him that you are not going to drown him yet...

Once he is wet, take him out of water, place him on drain towel and soap him up.. The flea shampoo says keep it on for five minutes but since he does not have fleas, I just soap him well... not his face..

I place him just like before, scruffed and with his bottom in my hand... kind of backwards in the water - so he can see my face... I slowly take the wash cloth and run it over his little eyes and ears.. Wash his chin and mouth.. all the time talking to him,,, Then I take the cup and rinse him a little...

I put him in the other sink with the clean rinse water and rinse him well.. If I need to rinse his back better or he is starting to wiggle .... I just hurry and put his paws on the divider between the sinks and rinse quickly... It is very important that all the soap has been rinsed off.....

I then wrap him in a towel like a baby.. Place him on the counter under a good light... I clean his ears.. keep him tightly wrapped... take one paw out at a time and clip his nails... if he gets antsy... have some one else.. scruff him and you clip his nails... wrap in a dry towel and give him as much love as he can stand then let him go... he will roll, lick and clean all that smelly stuff you put on him off.... but you will feel better... time for a nap...
